What is the function of current transformer?

‌The main functions of current transformers include measurement, protection and isolation. ‌‌
 
‌Measurement function‌: Current transformers convert large currents into small currents, usually 5A, and supply them to measuring instruments to accurately measure the current in the line.
 
‌Protection function‌: In conjunction with relay protection devices, current transformers can protect power systems and equipment from overload and overcurrent to ensure the safe operation of the system.
‌Isolation function‌: By isolating measuring instruments and relay protection devices from the high-voltage power grid of the line, current transformers protect the safety of people and equipment.
 
‌The working principle of current transformers is based on electromagnetic induction‌. It consists of a closed iron core and windings. The primary winding is connected in series in the current line to be measured, and the secondary winding is connected in series in the measuring instrument and protection circuit. When working, the secondary circuit is always closed, making the impedance of the measuring instrument and protection circuit very small, and the working state of the current transformer is close to short circuit.
